In the lead‑up to our Roos Past Players and Officials Day on the 8th of August, we’re putting together something special to celebrate the people who helped shape the Club across the decades. Over the coming weeks, we’ll be sharing a series of posts featuring photos from years gone by β€” the characters, the champions, the volunteers, and the familiar faces who built the Roos spirit long before today’s squads pulled on the jumper. It’s a chance to honour the history that still echoes through the Club today.

These photos capture more than just moments in time; they tell stories of muddy boots, road trips, big wins, tough losses, and the friendships that made it all worthwhile. Whether you played, coached, ran water, worked the scoreboard, or cheered from the boundary, these snapshots are part of your legacy. We hope they spark memories, conversations, and maybe even a few laughs as people recognise faces they haven’t seen in years. As each post goes up, we invite everyone β€” past players, officials, supporters, and families β€” to enjoy the nostalgia and see how many people you can identify. Tag your mates, share your stories, and help us bring these moments back to life. It’s all part of building excitement for a day that celebrates the Roos community across generations. We look forward to seeing as many of you as possible on the 8th August. This is part 1 of this series. How many Mt Barker players can you name? As a hint, this photo is from 1999 and the player on the left is still actively involved in the Club. See MoreSee Less

Shelie Barker is this week’s Volunteer of the Week for the Roos, and it’s a recognition that feels long overdue. Her connection to the Club runs deep, beginning many years ago when her three children first laced up their boots in Auskick. As they grew and progressed through the grades all the way to Senior Football, Shelie has never been far from the action β€” always ready to lend a hand, step into a role, or support the teams in any way she could.

Over the years, Shelie has worn many hats: Team Manager for multiple sides, sideline Photographer capturing the moments that matter, and a reliable go‑to whenever something needed doing. Her willingness to pitch in, week after week and season after season, has made her a familiar and trusted presence across the Club.Today, Shelie continues her commitment in one of her most impactful roles yet β€” the Club’s Senior Women’s Football Director. Her leadership, organisation, and passion have helped strengthen the women’s program and create an environment where players feel supported, valued, and proud to represent the Roos. It’s a role that demands time, energy, and heart, and Shelie brings all three in abundance. The Roos are incredibly fortunate to have volunteers like Shelie who embody what community sport is all about. Her dedication has shaped teams, supported families, and helped build the Club culture we’re proud of.Congratulations, Shelie β€” and thank you for everything you continue to do for the blue and white.Shelie will receive a $50 voucher for The Barker Hotel.
